Board Members:
  • Jeff Scott, President
    • I currently teach Science Methodology in the Faculty of Education at Nipissing University. One of the themes that I teach to is that of sustainability and how we can all promote change, even in the smallest way. I also believe that our children may be the ‘teachers’ of change in the future. What can you do to make our world a little ‘greener?
  • Jess Dion, Treasurer
    • A graduate of Brock University, currently I work as a Chartered Accountant for BDO Dunwoody. I joined Greening Nipissing in 2006 because I believe that we can make our world a better place. It starts with each of us as individuals- every step makes a difference whether it is walking/biking instead of driving or using cloth bags instead of plastic. It is my hope that this organization will inspire members of our community to take those small steps to improve not only our local but global environment.
  • Brian Herdman, Founding Member
    • A native of North Bay, Bryan spent most of his working career as an Air Traffic Controller, mainly in the North Bay Control Tower. Always interested in the environment, he began a maintenance landscaping company, Deer Creek Garden Care in the 1990s. Since his retirement from Nav Canada he works full time gardening with his company.
    • Bryan has a B.Sc. in Biology from Trent University. While at school he was active in student government on the Champlain College Cabinet. He also spent a term on the university senate.
    • After his children grew older, he again became active in the community. Due to his interest in physical fitness, he served for more than 10 years on the Board of Directors of the North Bay and District Family YMCA. His participation included terms as facilities chairman and as treasurer. With a long term interest in the environment he has been.
  • Al Tomek, Board Member
    • Al is a Graduate of Trent University with a Degree in Environmental Management and Political Science. He has had 19 years of experience working for a number of municipalities in the waste management field. Currently, Al is working for the City of North Bay as Waste Management Coordinator.
  • Vijanti Ramlogan Murphy, Board Member
  • Désirée Ducharme, Project Director
    • My educational background is in Environment and Resource Studies with a Degree from Waterloo University. I focused most of my studies on northern communities. My undergraduate thesis focused on the feasibility of integrated waste management programs in northern communities, with a case study in West Nipissing, which is where I am originally from.
    • I grew up in Moosonee, Ontario, where my passion for the north first developed and working towards protecting it became a life time goal. I have always been exposed to the wilderness growing up with a family that was very much into outdoor activities. I enjoy taking in every wonderful aspect that nature has to offer!
