Bike Fix Station Opening Ceremony Sept 27th, 2012

The Bike Fix Station is located at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Stanley St; where the Kinsmen bike path and the Kate Pace Way meet in Lee Park.

The Bike Fix Station Public Work Stand is a free to use bike repair stand that caters to the needs of the urban cyclist. Aircraft cable permanently tethers eight common bicycle tools. Its composed of a work station, hand air pump and a QR code to online instructions.

Additionally, the Bike Fix Station Public Work Stand is an element of the soon to be launched Chippewa EcoPath, a community initiative to restore and enhance natural values and heritage of the creek through stewardship and education. The EcoPath, funded by RBC Bluewater Project will highlight the history, ecosystem and stewardship of the creek through interpra-desks, website and kiosks.

Biking is a great way to exercise while helping the environment. You will reduce your carbon emissions and prevent run off and water contamination from gas and oil drops or spills.

Mountain Equipment Cooperative’s Access and Activity Grant 2012 graciously supported this project with funds to purchase the Bike Fix Sation Public Work Stand.

Greening Nipissing would like to thank all of their partners including Greenspace North Bay,Nipissing Environment Watch, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, Chippewa EcoPath Steering Committee, and City of North Bay Parks and Recreation Department for their support of this project

Be Well Aware
Register for e-course before September 12

As a private well owner, you are responsible for maintaining your well in a manner that protects it from surface water and other contaminants. That’s the law in Ontario.

But an improperly maintained well can also lower the quality of your water and put your family’s health at risk. And it could cost you thousands of dollars to solve the problem.

That’s why it’s important that you know how to recognize threats to your water quality and know what you can do to protect your water from contamination.

The Well Aware online course can help. Well Aware gives well owners the knowledge they need to identify and correct conditions that pose risks to their wells.

During the Well Aware online course, you’ll learn:
How your well is designed and constructed to work
How ground water travels and how this impacts your water supply
How a malfunctioning septic system can affect your well
How to critically look at your buffer zone (the area around your well that has the greatest potential for contamination)
Best practices for conserving your water
What you need to know about water treatment devices
Why only a licensed contractor should do work on your well

For $200, a trained Well Aware Advisor will help you identify potential hazardous conditions in real time, receive a written report including recommendations and gain access to local well professionals in your area.

What is your family’s health worth? Don’t wait until your water becomes unsafe. Register for Well Aware and start learning what you can do to protect your water quality and keep your family safe.

To register for Well Aware online course or to learn more, click on www.wellaware.ca or call 705-745-7479 x 114.  To support Greening Nipissing, please mention us when you register. The course starts on September 17, 2012.
